Dr. Connie Ratliffe, Dr. Sharon Otis, Dr. Bethany Helfman, Kara Zimmerman, LMFT, Ming Hsu, Marie Little, Bertha Garfield, and Dr. Terri Watson, PsyD.

What do these women have in common?

They’ve all personally, at one time or another, taken time out of their busy lives (and sweet Marie and Bertha are now with the Lord), to mentor me.

I’m so blessed to name these Hebrews 12 Hall of Famers in my life.

This chapter, if you’re not familiar with it starts with, Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.

And quite honestly, these women, with the help of other great friends in the mix, have been my tribe in various seasons to do that.

Some of them taught me how to maintain professional boundaries at work or to be a strong and yet godly and gracious wife, some of them taught me what to do with my fears of not being enough for my clients, others just helped me to be a good wife or mom, some taught me to age gracefully, and others to be a fiercely strong woman even far into older age.

Who are your influencers? What have they taught you? Do you need to call them again?

As we all try to cross to the promised land from our personal bad habits and choices to wisdom, I know we all realize in time that just about all we’ve learned has come by the sweat of our caregivers and prior generations’ brows every bit as much as our own.

Aside from your mentors, countless others have shaped your learning along the road of life, sometimes even people who don’t even know you personally because you’ve devoured their books and live in their fandom world, (JRR Tolkien for me, for sure! 🙂
